BizTech
We think that technology is for everyone at BizTech. As UBC's largest technology club.
We seek to develop an engaged community of students and professionals through learning opportunities, enduring relationships, and interactive industry engagements, whether it's a conference, a case competition, or a social event.
Contribution
I am the director of data analysts and the founder of the BizTech data team. Since not all queries can be answered by a single team, as in the following example, I recognized that our club has a lot of data that we need consolidate and use more effectively.
Why Data Analyst?
- Data-driven decision making Enhance the team’s mindset to be data-driven for the best decision practices.
- Promote BizTech’s mission Having a data analyst will help bridging the gap between business, technology and BizTech.
- Show>Tell BizTech* have hold so many events and tell so many stories about bringing* business and technology together. Now, it’s time to show by doing it. We don't want to feel like a business as a student organization, therefore I made a proposal for a "business analyst" post, then changed the title to "data analyst."
I developed a multi-year roadmap for this team's future development as a lead.
Roadmap
Data Analytic Processes
-
Data Requirement Gathering I determined and standardized the information that needs to be collected for each event.
-
Data Collection

For every event, I made a feedback form and gave it to the attendees to complete.
-
Data Cleaning

I exported the results into a Google Sheet and performed a quick average calculation for each quantitative rating, such as the overall average satisfaction rate.
-
Data Analysis

I made a google sheet that included a summary of all the information from each event. The majority of the insightful comments we received are still qualitative and particular to each event. For instance, "Hello Hacks" event wasn’t well executed as a novice hackathon since receiving a low "workshop" rating and students commenting that it moved too quickly. But one thing is clear from all the events.
-
Data Interpretation The top rating event “MIS Night” is suspected to have the highest rating because of the setting where a table of 10 people is mixed with professionals and students, which allow them to form a more intimate connection than mingling around the room. BizTech has taken connection formation as one of the factor into hosting future events.
-
Data Visualization I combined the event feedback forms into a graphical report for partners after standardizing them.As a result, partners are more ready to fund the event because they are aware of its significance.
