TLDR:
I took first-year english exemption exam for literature part, with 1 week of study, I passed (what a miracle)!

Resources I referred to
- Reddit post
- Piazza post (Thank you Sasha Avreline!)
- A short guide to writing about literature (Chapter on Poetry only, I’ll call it literature book), there are multiple copies available to borrow from Koerner Library
How did I study?
-
Daily routine (~ 1-2hr)
- I read a bit from the literature book
- Time myself 1 hour to do 1 mock exam since the first day when I have no idea what I’m doing. Put my response into Gemini and let it rate my response out of 6, and also to give me sample responses with score 2/6, 4/6, and 6/6, so I know what to improve and to avoid. I aimed to score 3-4 (since I only want a pass).
-
When I have read enough content form the literature book, I asked Gemini to come up with a template, where I could (halfly) remember what I needed to write. This is not strict so feel free to find what works for you.
-
I think did around 5-6 practices before I took a real exam, which was a poem about heart transplant.
-
Other than the reference past papers, I asked Gemini to generate me practice prompts.
Final thoughts
- Don’t think too much or be too stressed about this exam. If you do some practices you will be fine. Good luck with the exam~
